Islamabad: The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of potentially severe weather conditions expected to affect parts of Punjab, Islamabad, and the northern regions over the next 12 hours.

According to the advisory, a westerly disturbance is likely to trigger unstable weather across several areas, bringing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, windstorms, and isolated hailstorms. The most affected regions are expected to include:

Pothohar Region: Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Upper Punjab: Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, and Jhelum

Central Punjab: Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Lahore, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura

The NEOC anticipates that heavy rain accompanied by strong winds may lead to the falling of weak trees and cause temporary power outages. Windstorms and hail could damage vulnerable structures, rooftops, vehicles, and power infrastructure. Hailstorms also pose a significant threat to standing crops in the affected areas.

Additionally, the advisory highlights the risk of a rapid rise in water flows and localized flash flooding in streams and nullahs across Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Chitral, Mansehra, Khurram, Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, and Neelum Valley.

Hazara and Malakand Divisions are also at heightened risk of flash floods, particularly on April 18 and 20, due to forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall.

The NDMA has advised tourists and travelers to remain vigilant and stay informed through official weather updates. People are urged to check road conditions before traveling and avoid unnecessary movement during heavy rain.

Those residing in or visiting landslide-prone areas are strongly advised to follow safety instructions issued by local authorities.

The NEOC is monitoring the situation in real-time and is coordinating closely with provincial and district disaster management authorities to ensure swift response measures and public safety.
