NDMA Warns of Severe Flash Flooding in Balochistan, Northern Areas

News Desk
Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)’s National Emergency Operations Center has issued a warning about imminent flash flooding due to current hydro-meteorological conditions.
High to very high-level flash floods are expected in Balochistan, particularly in the hill torrents and local nullahs of Zhob, Kalat, Nasirabad, and Sibbi divisions, potentially causing damage to infrastructure. Similarly, the hill torrents and local nullahs in D.G. Khan may also experience severe flooding, which could damage infrastructure.
Villages, towns, and settlements near nullahs, especially those along floodplains, are at risk of being affected by increased water flows.
On the northern side, significant rainfall in the catchment areas of the Kabul River and its tributaries is likely to result in medium to high floods in Nowshera and its tributaries. This could inundate low-lying areas and damage infrastructure.
Additionally, a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) event in Chitral is expected to increase flows in the Panjkora River and subsequently in the Kabul River.
The NDMA has instructed all relevant departments to take precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of the flooding and extreme weather conditions. Residents in at-risk areas are advised to avoid floodwaters, seek safe locations away from flood-prone areas, and use alternative routes to avoid affected zones.
To keep the public informed, the NDMA has launched the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert application, available on the Google Play Store and iOS App Store.
This app provides timely alerts, advisories, and guidelines to help manage the risks associated with the ongoing extreme weather conditions.
