Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a high-alert travel advisory for several regions across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as a powerful weather system approaches, bringing with it intense rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and gusty winds within the next 12 hours.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), high-risk districts include Malakand, Hazara, Bannu, Charsadda, Karak, Khyber, Kohat, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Mardan, Nowshera, Orakzai, Peshawar, Swabi, and Waziristan. The severe weather poses significant threats of flash flooding, landslides, and potential damage to infrastructure.
Residents and travelers have been strongly advised to exercise extreme caution. The advisory specifically discourages unnecessary travel to hilly and landslide-prone areas, particularly in Hazara and Malakand divisions. Motorists are urged to check road conditions before setting out, as downpours may lead to road blockages and major travel disruptions.
The NDMA also warned of the potential impact on vulnerable structures, standing crops, and power infrastructure due to strong winds and hail.
Low-lying communities face a heightened risk of flash floods, while those in mountainous regions should remain alert for possible landslides.
Emergency response teams have been placed on high alert, and the public is advised to stay informed through updates from local authorities.
The NDMA stressed that strict adherence to safety protocols is vital for minimizing risks and ensuring the safety of residents during this extreme weather event.
