NDMA Issues Rain, Snowfall Alert for GB, AJK, and Balochistan

News Desk

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) has issued a weather alert for parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Balochistan, forecasting rain and snowfall over the next 24 to 48 hours.

According to NEOC, intermittent rainfall is expected across several districts of Balochistan during the next two days. Areas likely to be affected include Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Pishin, Quetta, and surrounding regions.

The advisory further stated that Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are likely to receive rain, while snowfall is expected in the mountainous areas. Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Astore, Diamer, and Shigar are among the districts where rain and snowfall are forecast.

NDMA warned that snowfall in hilly areas could cause slippery road conditions, potentially disrupting traffic flow. Travelers have been advised to exercise caution while traveling in mountainous regions and to adopt necessary safety measures. The authority strongly advised against traveling to hilly areas with old or worn-out vehicle tires.

The public has also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel in mountainous regions. In case travel during snowfall becomes unavoidable, commuters have been advised to ensure the availability of essential supplies, including snow chains, extra fuel, and emergency equipment.

NDMA emphasized the importance of cooperating with local administrations, following official advisories, and staying informed about evolving weather conditions while traveling in potentially affected areas.

In view of the expected weather conditions and associated risks, provincial and district administrations have been directed to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures. NDMA stated that NEOC is closely monitoring the situation and ensuring timely dissemination of weather-related information and early warnings to all relevant stakeholders.
