NDMA Issues Nationwide Alert as Heavy Monsoon Rains Loom

News Desk

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Sunday issued a nationwide alert in anticipation of heavy monsoon rains expected over the next three to four days, warning of possible urban flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

According to the NDMA, torrential downpours are forecast from today through July 5 in Islamabad, Kashmir, and parts of northern and central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reported a private news channel.

Heavy rainfall is also likely in Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, and Lahore, with potential flooding in low-lying areas of Faisalabad and Sargodha divisions.

Flash floods are feared in Hazara, Malakand, Azad Kashmir, and the hilly regions of Pir Panjal, alongside an increased risk of landslides.

River levels are expected to rise in the tributaries of the Kabul, Swat, Chitral, and Hunza rivers.

From July 2 to 5, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, and Badin may witness intense rainfall, potentially leading to urban flooding.

The NDMA has advised provincial and local authorities to remain on high alert and ensure timely evacuations and preparedness measures in high-risk zones.
