NDMA Issues High Alert as Widespread Rain, Thunderstorms Expected Across Pakistan

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide high alert, warning of widespread rain and thunderstorms expected to affect multiple regions within the next 12 to 24 hours.
The NDMA has directed Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), district administrations, and all relevant departments to activate contingency plans and remain on high alert.
In an impact-based weather advisory, the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of NDMA urged the public to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel, maintain a safe distance from electric poles and unstable structures, and strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities.
Sindh
Significant rainfall is forecast for most districts of Sindh, including Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Kashmore, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Badin, and Karachi. Intermittent thunderstorms accompanied by occasional heavy downpours may result in urban flooding and severe waterlogging.
Punjab and Islamabad
Heavy rainfall is expected across upper and central Punjab, impacting cities such as Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Narowal, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Faisalabad, Lahore, Okara, and Kasur. Islamabad is also expected to receive significant rainfall, raising the risk of localized flooding and disruption to daily activities.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also bracing for intensified monsoon activity, with widespread thunderstorms and heavy rainfall forecast in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mohmand, Nowshera, Malakand, Charsadda, Bannu, Buner, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Waziristan, and surrounding areas. The region is at heightened risk of flash floods and landslides, especially in hilly and mountainous terrain.
The NDMA has urged the public to stay informed and prepared by downloading the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile application, which provides real-time updates and essential safety guidelines during emergencies.
