NDMA Forecasts Intense Rains, Flash Flood Risk

Islamabad: The National Emergencies Operation Center (NDMA) has advised vigilance as heavy rain, thunderstorms, and potential flash floods are expected from July 6 to 10.
Impact-based weather alerts warn that predicted monsoon activity, combined with a strong westerly wave, may affect multiple regions, while northern areas face an elevated flash flood risk from July 7 to 12.
Isolated rainfall and thunderstorms are likely in Islamabad and Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, and surrounding areas from July 6 to 10.
Moderate to heavy rain is likely across northern and central Punjab, while southern Punjab districts, including Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan, can expect low to moderate rain.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Battagram, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Haripur, Bannu, and Kohat in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will have moderate to heavy rain, particularly in the evening and nighttime, with flash flood danger in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Diamir, Ghanche, Shigar, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Haveli, and Bagh. Conditions may result in flash flooding, landslides, road obstruction, and power or communication disruptions.
In Sindh, except for moderate rain in Sukkur, Nawabshah, Kashmore, Hyderabad, Karachi, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Badin, and Mithi, heavy rain is expected in Ghotki, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu. Urban flooding, road congestion, and infrastructure damage are likely.
Balochistan is likely to experience scattered to heavy rain in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Barkhan, Jaffarabad, Kohlu, Sibi, Dera Bugti, Loralai, Lasbela, and Naseerabad, with waterlogging, traffic breakdown, and destruction of fragile structures due to gusty winds and lightning.
NDMA recommends the public take precautionary steps such as avoiding unnecessary travel, remaining indoors during severe weather, and securing household items and vehicles. Travelers are discouraged from going to high-altitude or flood-prone areas. Local governments have been directed to prepare response teams, clear clogged drainage systems, and keep the public informed.
Drivers are advised to avoid flooded roads and underpasses. Rescue and evacuation efforts are on standby by emergency services, and citizens are urged to stay updated through NDMA advisories and download the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for real-time weather updates and safety tips.
