NCCIA Now Operational, FIA Clarifies Jurisdiction

Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued a firm clarification refuting media reports that falsely linked it to recent judicial orders regarding the closure of Pakistani YouTube channels.

In an official statement, the FIA confirmed that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has been formally established and is now fully operational. All matters related to cybercrime investigations and legal proceedings are now exclusively under the jurisdiction of the NCCIA, not the FIA.

“The news circulating in the media, claiming that a judicial magistrate has ordered the FIA to shut down 27 Pakistani YouTube channels, is completely baseless and inaccurate,” said an FIA spokesperson.

The agency emphasized that the court orders in question were issued on the request of the NCCIA, and the FIA was not mentioned in any part of the judicial directive.

“It is essential to understand that the FIA and NCCIA are two separate and independent institutions. Cybercrime investigations no longer fall under the FIA’s mandate,” the statement clarified.

The FIA also urged media outlets and the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to verify news with relevant authorities before publication or broadcast.
