Nationwide Rain Alert: NDMA, PDMAs on High Alert

News Desk

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast continued scattered rainfall and gusty winds across the country during the ongoing first monsoon spell, which is expected to persist until Sunday.

Residents from Islamabad to Karachi have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid weather-related hazards.

Speaking to a state-run news channel, PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir Zaigham said the opening spell of the monsoon had brought substantial rainfall, and more widespread and intense showers were likely in the coming days.

He noted that the weather system would continue to impact most parts of Sindh and could further strengthen in intensity. “The monsoon system currently affecting Karachi is expected to linger until Sunday morning, bringing intermittent light, moderate, and heavy rainfall,” he said.

The PMD has issued an urban flooding warning for low-lying areas of Karachi due to the anticipated heavy downpours. Residents have been advised to monitor weather updates through the PMD’s official website.

Meteorologist Atif Irshad also urged both tourists and the general public to exercise caution during the prevailing weather conditions. He emphasized the need for preparedness in light of potential flooding and waterlogging.

All relevant authorities, including the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), are on high alert.

The departments are coordinating closely to manage any emergencies and ensure timely responses to minimize disruptions and safeguard citizens.
