NADRA Launches NSOR Service To Identify Child, Woman Sexual Offenders
News Desk
Islamabad: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) introduced a new platform, the National Sex Offenders Registry (NSOR), coupled with SMS verification to help citizens and institutions across the country identify and track individuals who have been convicted of sex crimes against children and women.
The purpose of this service is to provide common citizens and institutions with quick and easy access to information about sex offenders, particularly those who may pose a potential threat to children and women in our well-knit communities.
It is a dynamic database of sexual offenders. Links with various law enforcement departments and provincial governments have been created to allow for real-time updates. This change aims to increase the service’s flexibility and responsiveness to institutional and societal demands for sexual violence and abuse prevention.
Citizens, employers, and government agencies will be made aware of these offenders thanks to an SMS-based verification programme.
“This initiative, which is an important step in protecting women and children from sexual violence and abuse, has always been closer to my heart,” said NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik.
Malik stated that citizens can now use this service to verify the CNIC number of individuals being hired for household chores at mosques, colleges, universities, or any other employment to ensure they are not sexual convicts, have a clean record, and can be trusted around women and children.
The Chairman said, “The prevention of even one case of sexual assault against a kid or a woman is an investment in the future of our nation as well as an act of protection. Our country needs to take this obligation to the least of the poor seriously.”
“We must understand that protecting women and children from sexual assault entails more than just punishing offenders; it also entails fostering a culture of safety and protection for these groups. Then and only then can we guarantee that the following generation has the chance to prosper,” Tariq Malik added.
The information can also be used to locate offenders to prevent future crimes and ensure that they are held accountable for their actions. Upon provision of the CNIC by the individual being hired, the citizens of Pakistan can verify whether he is a convicted sex offender or not by sending a 13-digit CNIC number to 7000 (a SMS short code). Upon verification, he or she will receive a reply in Urdu: “Beware! ABC, son of XYZ, is a convict. Don’t let him be around children and women.”
