Mystery Canal Death, Wife Sentenced to Life

Chiniot/Rawalpindi: Police in Chiniot are investigating the recovery of an unidentified woman’s body from a canal, while a Rawalpindi court has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for murdering her husband in a separate case.
In Chiniot, the body of a 60-year-old unidentified woman was recovered from a canal near Ada Sheikhan, Kot Amir, on Wednesday. Rescue 1122 personnel retrieved the body from the canal and recovered Rs39,400 in cash from the spot. The body and recovered money were handed over to police for further legal proceedings.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the woman’s identity and the circumstances surrounding her death. Authorities are checking missing persons records in surrounding areas to help trace her identity and unravel the mystery.

Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, an Additional District and Sessions Court convicted and sentenced two individuals in a murder case reported at Sadiqabad Police Station in April. After a detailed trial examining forensic evidence, witness testimonies, and other material on record, Judge Nadia Ikram Malik announced the verdict.
The court found Sania Shahzad guilty of murdering her husband and sentenced her to life imprisonment. She was also ordered to pay Rs400,000 as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased. Additionally, under Section 201 for causing the disappearance of evidence or providing false information, she was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment along with a fine of Rs10,000.
The co-accused, Junaid Bhatti, was convicted of murder and awarded the death sentence. He was also directed to pay Rs400,000 as compensation. Under Section 452 for house trespass after preparation to commit an offence, he was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs10,000.
City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani commended the investigation team, SSP (Investigations), and the legal cell for their effective investigation and consistent performance during court proceedings.
