Muzaffargarh: Malik Shaukat Hussain, better known as Shaukat Bhikari, the man who captured national attention as Muzaffargarh’s “millionaire beggar,” died in a tragic road accident near Jhangar Mahra on Saturday.
Rescue 1122 sources reported that Shaukat sustained critical injuries when his motorcycle collided in an accident. He was being transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Shaukat, a resident of Miranpur, Shah Jamal, became a viral sensation for his unusual approach to begging. Unlike most beggars, he reportedly deposited every rupee he collected into bank accounts, often sharing deposit slips on social media. At the time of his death, he claimed to have over Rs 4.8 million in savings, making him a local curiosity and media phenomenon.
He was known not just for his wealth but for his unique lifestyle. Reports indicate he owned two houses in Multan and had taken out insurance policies, proudly referring to himself as a “crorepati beggar.” His extraordinary financial status even drew the attention of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), which issued him several notices due to his substantial bank balance.
Shaukat’s story fascinated people across Pakistan. To many, he symbolized resilience and ingenuity, turning a life of begging into an unusual form of financial discipline and self-promotion. Yet, his sudden death is a stark reminder of life’s fragility.
He was laid to rest in his native village of Miranpur after funeral prayers, leaving behind a legacy that blurred the lines between poverty and prosperity, charity and entrepreneurship.
Shaukat Bhikari will be remembered not just for his wealth, but for the remarkable life he led against all odds—a beggar who became a millionaire and a story that captured the imagination of a nation.
