Rawalpindi: Authorities in Murree have stepped up measures to ensure safety, order, and convenience for tourists and residents, launching a coordinated crackdown against illegal activities on Mall Road and introducing a free vehicle recovery service across the hill station.

On Wednesday, a joint operation was conducted under the directives of the Deputy Commissioner Murree by Team PTS, with support from the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) and Civil Defence officials.

The crackdown targeted unauthorised street vendors, beggars, and illegal cameramen operating along the popular tourist thoroughfare.

Inspector Usman, who supervised the operation, issued on-the-spot legal warnings to violators, instructing unauthorised cameramen to immediately cease illegal activities and comply fully with relevant laws in the future.

He emphasized that Mall Road Murree, a key destination for domestic and international tourists, must remain safe, organised, and welcoming.

“The activities of illegal vendors and beggars not only inconvenience tourists but also damage the city’s positive image, which will not be tolerated,” he said. Officials also warned that strict legal action would be taken against repeat offenders.

In a complementary move to enhance tourist convenience, the City Traffic Police (CTP) Murree launched a free vehicle recovery service for residents and visitors.

The initiative, implemented under the special directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was facilitated through modern recovery vehicles coordinated by Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar and Deputy Inspector General Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazir.

Chief Traffic Officer Murree Imran Razaq explained that the service ensures prompt assistance in cases of vehicle breakdowns or accidents anywhere in Murree and surrounding areas. Faulty or accident-hit vehicles will be safely transported to the nearest workshop.

Citing a recent example, CTO Razaq noted that a tourist from Lahore, stranded due to a vehicle breakdown on Bariyan Road, received immediate assistance after contacting the traffic control room, with the vehicle safely recovered to a workshop.

The district administration stated that both measures aim to safeguard tourists, discourage illegal practices, and improve overall discipline in Murree, making it a safer and more organised destination.

Residents and tourism circles have welcomed the initiatives, expressing hope that the steps will enhance visitor experience and maintain Murree’s reputation as a premier hill station.
