Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Syed Mustafa Kamal has directed the immediate submission of a comprehensive feasibility report and master plan for the upgradation of the old Federal Government Polyclinic building in Islamabad.
The directive came during the minister’s visit to Polyclinic Hospital, where he was accompanied by Federal Health Secretary Syed Waqar ul Hassan to review healthcare facilities and service delivery.
During a thorough inspection of the hospital’s departments, including the medical wards, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and dialysis centre, Kamal was briefed on the infrastructure and operational challenges. The Executive Director of Polyclinic presented a detailed overview of the facility’s existing capacity and areas needing urgent improvement.
Acknowledging the staff’s efforts, the minister ordered the addition of 20 beds to the dermatology and psychiatry departments located in G-7/3-4 to accommodate the growing patient load. He further instructed the formulation of a modern upgradation plan, incorporating a state-of-the-art HVAC system and aligning it with an overarching service delivery improvement strategy.
In a key move to enhance diagnostic services, Kamal ordered the immediate installation of an MRI machine at the facility. “Access to timely and quality medical care is a fundamental right of every citizen,” he reiterated.
Later, the health minister visited the under-construction New Emergency Block at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where he reviewed the construction progress. Officials from the Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP) and PIMS management informed him that the new emergency facility would offer 200 beds.
Kamal directed the preparation of a comprehensive project presentation, including timelines and challenges faced. “All obstacles under the Ministry’s domain will be resolved urgently, and tasks assigned to other stakeholders must be executed on a fast-track basis,” he stressed, adding that the emergency block’s swift completion is vital for saving lives.
He also instructed the upgradation of the hospital’s sewage treatment system and underscored the importance of ensuring clean drinking water across healthcare facilities.
The minister then inspected the under-construction 200-bed Cancer Hospital in Islamabad. The Project Director briefed him on the facility’s advanced medical technologies, including the inclusion of a PET Scan diagnostic unit.
To accelerate work, Kamal directed the deployment of additional laborers and engineers and ordered construction to proceed in double shifts.
“These projects are not just infrastructure; they are a promise to the people of Pakistan. We are determined to deliver on this promise with urgency, efficiency, and full transparency,” the minister concluded.
