Lahore: Shahid Abbas, Chief Meteorologist of the Flood Forecasting Division in Lahore, predicted an upcoming monsoon spell that will bring widespread showers to Northern areas, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
This rainfall is expected to provide relief from the heat, replenish water sources, mitigate wildfire risks, and support agricultural activities.
In an interview with PTV News, Shahid Abbas expressed confidence in the preparations made to handle the anticipated monsoon.
He noted that a well-considered strategy and optimal arrangements were in place to manage the situation effectively. Areas vulnerable to flooding and extreme weather events are also being identified, allowing authorities to take proactive measures to ensure public safety.
Responding to a query, Shahid Abbas provided an update on the water levels at Tarbela Dam, revealing that it is currently 98 percent full.
He assured the public that despite the high water levels, there are no flood warnings in effect for any rivers or areas during this monsoon spell, indicating that the situation is under control and being closely monitored.
He also noted that the upcoming monsoon will bring a significant end to the intense heat that has affected the region, providing much-needed respite to the public. The expected rainfall is anticipated to reduce temperatures and improve overall weather conditions, making the environment more pleasant and comfortable.
Shahid Abbas added that the above-average rainfall is likely to have a positive impact on the environment, agriculture, and water resources, marking a promising development for the country.
