Mobile, Internet Suspended as PTI Prepares D-Chowk Rally

News Desk

Islamabad: Mobile phone and internet services have been suspended in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in response to a planned protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at D-Chowk.

Additionally, the Islamabad district administration (ICT) has imposed a two-day ban on pillion riding, according to a report by a private news channel on Friday.

Under the new restriction, only one person will be allowed on a motorcycle in the capital city, with strict legal action promised against violators. An official notification regarding this ban is expected shortly.

The shutdown of mobile and internet services has disrupted daily life in both cities, affecting communication and causing significant challenges for residents.

Many are struggling to reach their workplaces, and students and teachers are facing difficulties commuting to schools, colleges, and universities. Ride-hailing services, such as Uber, which rely heavily on mobile networks, have also been impacted and remain non-operational.

Army, Rangers Deployed

Following the federal cabinet’s approval, the army has been deployed in Islamabad under Article 245 of the Constitution to secure key government buildings and the Red Zone. Rangers were already stationed in the capital.

In an effort to maintain law and order, the ICT administration has also sealed off 24 key entry and exit points to the city. Among the locations closed are New Margalla Road, Sangjani Toll Plaza, Zero Point, Express Chowk, Serena Chowk, and several others.

Motorways Closed

In anticipation of PTI’s protest, several sections of the motorway have been closed. Containers have been placed at key locations, including Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, Babu Sabu Interchange, and Thokar Niaz Beg.

The M2 Motorway from Hafizabad to Islamabad, as well as sections of the M4 Motorway, have also been blocked to prevent the movement of PTI convoys from entering Punjab from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
