Swat: In a tragic and violent incident, an angry mob allegedly killed a man suspected of desecrating the “Quran” in the Madin area of Swat.

The enraged crowd also set fire to the local police station and a police vehicle, local sources said on Friday.

According to local sources, the incident began with announcements in the market alleging that someone had desecrated the “Holy Quran”.

The suspect, Muhammad Ismail, son of Qamar Aziz from Sialkot, Punjab, was apprehended by locals and handed over to the police.

However, following further announcements made in mosques and through loudspeakers in the bazaar, a large crowd gathered at the police station.

In a violent outburst, the mob stormed the police station, dragged the accused out of his holding cell, and killed him.

They then set the police station and a police vehicle on fire, causing extensive damage. The police officers on duty fled for their lives and called for additional forces to control the situation.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has taken notice of the incident.

Information Adviser Barrister Saif Ali stated that the matter is under investigation and the government is looking into the circumstances surrounding the tragic events in Madin.

This incident underscores the volatile nature of blasphemy accusations in Pakistan and the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining order amid such sensitive and emotional issues.
