Mistreated sweepers: Class-IV employees protest against MC Jhang
News Desk
Jhang: A large number of Class-IV employees lodged a protest against the mistreatment of the Municipal Corporation Jhang. The protesting employees appealed to the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, the Punjab government and the district government to take notice of the biased approach of the management and solve the problems of the sanitary workers on an emergency basis. The protesting employees were carrying banners and play cards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands and against the mistreatment of the management of the Corporation.
A large number of sanitary workers gathered in front of the Jhang Municipal Corporation office and chanted slogans in favour of their demands and against the authority’s anti-sweepers approach.
It is to mention here that the Municipal Corporation Jhang has become a nightmare for Class-IV employees. Despite the orders of the Lahore High Court (LHC), 135 sanitary workers, including 70 Christians, have been forced to resign from their jobs.
Reacting against the decision, labour rights activist Asif Manwar strongly condemned the authority and appealed to the higher authority to take notice of the unfair decisions of the authority.
Job security is among the basic human rights and this right should be given to the Class-IV employees of the Municipal Corporation. Ironically, despite the LHC order, they are not getting the benefits that regular employees are being paid, Manoor said. The employees have sought help from civil society organizations to resolve the issues so that their right to employment is not affected.
They do cleaning work, but in reality, they are serving the citizens of the Jhang district in a way that no ordinary citizen can do. We should respect the sanitary workers and not deprive them of their right to work for their services, he added.
He said that if the problems of the employees are not resolved, the civil society of Jhang will protest vigorously along with the employees.
