Misbah in Running for Test Head Coach Amid PCB Uncertainty
News Desk
Islamabad: Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq is under consideration for the position of head coach for the national Test team, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) faces mounting uncertainty over its internal processes and future planning.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Misbah has shown a strong interest in returning to the role and has been in direct contact with the PCB regarding the opportunity. The ex-captain previously held the dual responsibilities of head coach and chief selector from 2019 to 2021.
However, insiders reveal that Misbah and other candidates have voiced concerns over the lack of clarity and transparency in the current recruitment process. The national selection committee, along with the team’s mentoring staff, has also expressed frustration at the board’s silence.
“The selection committee had a detailed meeting with PCB officials seeking clarification, but there was no official response from the board,” a source close to the development told The Pen PK. “This continued silence has created confusion among selectors and coaching staff.”
While interviews and meetings with senior officials have taken place, the PCB has not issued any definitive communication about the final selection or the long-term direction of the Test side. Despite the uncertainty, the board has instructed the selection committee to continue with its duties as normal.
The situation underscores the growing concerns within Pakistan’s cricketing circles over the PCB’s administrative indecision, just months ahead of crucial international assignments for the red-ball squad.
