Islamabad: The National Emergencies Operation Center of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has anticipated a minor Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in Badswat Nullah.
According to an NDMA news release on Wednesday, this minor glacial flooding is expected to cause localized flash floods, potentially affecting temporary bridges and road connections for upstream areas.
The NDMA has advised the Gilgit Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) and local administration to closely monitor the situation, identify at-risk populations, and evacuate them to safer areas if medium to high flows occur.
Community-based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) teams have also been advised to stay alert.
“The public is advised to remain vigilant and follow instructions from local authorities,” stated the NDMA.
“Stay informed by downloading the ‘Pak-NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app for timely alerts and closely monitor weather reports. Travelers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel in case of potential flooding situations.”
