Rawalpindi: Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Baitul-Mal, Sohail Shaukat Butt, recently visited various locations in Rawalpindi Division to oversee the registration process for the CM Punjab Himat Card, aimed at supporting persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Accompanied by MPAs Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, Imran Ilyas, Mansoor Afsar, and Zaib-un-Nisa Awan, the minister inspected registration points in Sir Syed Chowk (Rawalpindi), Taxila, and Murree.
During his visit to Sir Syed Chowk, Minister Butt instructed the teams to actively encourage PWDs to maximize their registration for the Himat Card.
He carefully reviewed the registration and verification processes, emphasizing that beneficiaries must be registered and verified using the Social Welfare mobile application.
In a media briefing, the minister highlighted CM Maryam Nawaz’s ongoing efforts for the welfare of PWDs. He revealed that teams from the Department of Social Welfare and Baitul-Mal Punjab were conducting door-to-door verifications for those unable to work and considered a burden on their families.
“Before issuing the Himat Card, an integrated system has been established to identify PWDs who cannot work and are eligible for financial assistance,” he said. Currently, 388,000 PWDs in Punjab have received disability certificates from the District Assessment Board for Persons with Disabilities, with 150,000 of these being unable to work.
In response to inquiries, the minister announced that in the first phase, 65,000 individuals are being verified. Once this process is completed, eligible PWDs will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 3,500 for three months. Additionally, they will be provided with assistive devices such as wheelchairs, white canes, and hearing aids as needed.
The minister’s tour also included visits to Thatth Khalil in Taxila, along with MPA Mohsin Ayub Khan, and various areas of Murree. He informed the public that the helpline 1312 and social welfare contact numbers are available during office hours for registration inquiries.
He instructed the Director of Social Welfare Rawalpindi to involve public representatives in the campaign to achieve better results. Social Welfare Department officials accompanied the minister throughout the visits.
