Lahore:  The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a dengue alert for 10 major cities, warning of an increased risk of the epidemic spreading in October.

According to the alert, dengue cases, which began rising in September, are expected to surge in the coming weeks.

The cities at high risk include Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, Hyderabad, and Larkana.

The Meteorological Department highlighted that the risk of dengue increases significantly after the monsoon season, particularly when rainfall exceeds 27 mm. The risk is highest two hours before sunrise and before sunset.

However, the spread of dengue decreases when temperatures drop below 16°C.

The Health Department has urged the public to take preventive measures, including avoiding stagnant water in and around homes, covering open water containers and tanks, and wearing full-sleeved clothing.

Common symptoms of dengue include fever, sore throat, headache, and vomiting. Citizens are also advised to use mosquito repellents to prevent mosquito breeding.
