Mercury Soars in Karachi Amidst Sweltering Heatwave Alert
News Desk
Islamabad: Karachi is set to experience a further rise in heat intensity today, with temperatures expected to soar to 40 degrees Celsius, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced on Monday.
The Met Office forecast described the weather in the port city as “extremely hot and humid,” conditions likely to increase discomfort for residents. High humidity levels will make the temperature feel significantly hotter than the actual reading on the thermometer.
On Saturday, Karachi recorded a maximum temperature of 37.6°C, but the heat index—or ‘feels-like’ temperature—was reported to be 6 to 8 degrees higher due to elevated humidity.
Meteorologists have issued warnings about potential health risks linked to the current weather, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing medical conditions. The public is advised to stay indoors during peak heat hours, keep well-hydrated, and avoid unnecessary sun exposure.
Authorities have been urged to implement precautionary measures, including ensuring the availability of water and medical assistance at public locations, particularly during the hottest hours of the afternoon.
