Maryam Nawaz Unveils Green Transport Initiative Oct 15

Rawalpindi: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is set to inaugurate a new electric public bus service in Rawalpindi on October 15, marking a major step toward modern, affordable, and eco-friendly urban transport in the city.

President of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Rawalpindi Division Malik Abrar Ahmad told APP on Friday that a total of 87 air-conditioned electric buses would be introduced across four routes in phases.

In the first phase, the route from Rawat to Motorway Chowk would become operational, providing citizens with a comfortable and reliable commuting option.

Malik Abrar, who also serves as Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on the Cabinet Secretariat, said the fare had been set at an affordable Rs 20 per ride. Students and senior citizens aged 60 and above would be able to travel free of charge.

He said the new service would provide residents with a dignified and efficient mode of public transport while helping to ease traffic congestion across the garrison city.

The PML-N leader said the people of Rawalpindi were eagerly awaiting the chief minister’s visit and viewed the launch as a landmark public welfare initiative aimed at resolving daily commuting challenges and extending modern facilities to all segments of society.

Highlighting the chief minister’s broader vision, he said that since taking office, Maryam Nawaz Sharif had introduced wide-ranging reforms to improve governance, transparency, and public service delivery.

He added that under her leadership, Punjab had witnessed significant progress in education, healthcare, transport, employment, infrastructure, and social welfare sectors.

Among her key initiatives, he cited the School Revamping Programme, establishment of Mother and Child Hospitals, Punjab Green Tractor Scheme, subsidized food programmes, and digital governance reforms — all aimed at transforming Punjab into a modern, prosperous, and welfare-oriented province.
