Maryam Nawaz Unveils Ambitious Development Plans for Punjab

Islamabad: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that her administration is committed to upgrading the province’s infrastructure to match the standards of Japan, with visible improvements already underway in key public sectors, especially health and sanitation.

Speaking to the Pakistani diaspora in Tokyo during her five-day visit to Japan, Maryam Nawaz highlighted significant progress in Punjab’s healthcare system, noting that patients from across the country are now seeking treatment in the province due to improved facilities.

She also announced the launch of the Suthra Punjab initiative, which she described as the world’s largest sanitation project. This effort aims to clean cities and towns throughout Punjab and has already created 150,000 jobs to maintain cleanliness across the province.

Addressing Pakistan’s broader economic challenges, the Chief Minister praised the vital contributions of overseas Pakistanis to the country’s economic recovery. She noted a sharp decline in inflation, stating that while it stood at 38% just a few months ago under the PML-N government, it has now dropped to 3%.

Maryam Nawaz also shared plans to incorporate Japanese technology into Punjab’s waste management and environmental practices to further enhance efficiency and sustainability.

Commending Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s dedication, she remarked that he works tirelessly from 7 a.m. to midnight to steer the country through its challenges.

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister unveiled a plan to construct 500,000 homes for low-income families over the next five years, with 100,000 of those homes expected to be completed by December.

In addition, she announced the introduction of 1,100 electric buses across Punjab by year-end, offering a flat fare of just 20 rupees. The government also plans to distribute 50,000 scholarships and 100,000 laptops to deserving students.
