Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has called for a sustainable and integrated strategy to protect the environment, stressing the importance of safeguarding natural resources to ensure a secure future.

In her message on the ‘International Day for Preventing Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict’, she emphasized that wars and conflicts not only claim human lives but also lead to the destruction of precious environmental resources.

She noted, “In Gaza and other areas, not only people but the environment are being destroyed by the war.” The chief minister highlighted that during times of conflict, “environmental and natural resources are brutally looted,” causing severe harm to ecosystems.

She emphasized that armed conflicts result in deforestation, increased water and air pollution, and a loss of soil fertility, affecting both flora and fauna.

The chief minister concluded by stressing that all possible measures must be taken to prevent the destruction of natural resources during times of war.
