Rawalpindi: In a shocking turn of events, the uncle of a seven-year-old girl from Mandra was found to be the perpetrator of her brutal rape and murder. The suspect, identified as Sunil, succumbed to injuries sustained in a shootout involving his accomplices while being escorted by police for evidence recovery early Tuesday morning.
According to a spokesperson for Rawalpindi Police, Sunil was arrested on Monday night by Mandra police following the disappearance and subsequent murder of the minor girl. The suspect, who was also the real uncle of the victim and lived near her residence, was known to be addicted to crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as ice).
During the initial investigation, the suspect confessed to luring the girl on Easter Sunday with the promise of food and drinks. He took her to an under-construction building where he attempted to sexually assault her.
When the child resisted and screamed, he fatally attacked her—first slitting her throat with scissors, then striking her with a brick, and finally strangling her. In a deeply disturbing revelation, the suspect admitted to raping the victim posthumously.
Following the crime, Sunil returned home and even participated in the family’s search for the missing girl in an apparent effort to divert suspicion. However, his behavior raised concerns among investigators, leading to his interrogation and eventual confession.
While being transported to recover the murder weapon, police were ambushed by the suspect’s accomplices. Sunil was critically injured in the crossfire and later died while being shifted to the hospital.
Meanwhile, City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani appreciated the Assistant Superintendent of Police Gujar Khan and the Mandra police team for arresting the suspect within 24 hours of the tragic incident and for bravely performing their duty despite the firing of his accomplices.
