Man Held for Abusing, Threatening Mother

Attock: The Attock Police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly abusing and threatening his elderly mother after she refused to transfer land ownership to his name.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Hakmeen Khan, reportedly beat his mother and locked her in a room during an argument over property. The woman later approached the police and lodged a complaint, leading to his arrest.

Police said the case was registered under the Parents Protection Ordinance 2021, which makes it a punishable offence to abuse or mistreat parents. Those found guilty can face imprisonment for up to one year, a fine, or both.The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.

According to the complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Sajjad Ali Jamali of Police Post Society Jamshoro, police received information that a car snatched in Karachi’s SITE area—bearing registration number BQR-209—was heading towards Jamshoro.

A police team was deployed at the M9 Motorway toll plaza to intercept the vehicle. Officers from Hyderabad, including SHO A-Section Police Station Naek Muhammad Khoso, later joined the operation.

At around 6:20 pm, police signaled the suspected car to stop, but the suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot while opening fire on the police. After a chase spanning over four kilometers, police returned fire, killing all four suspects on the spot.

The suspects were identified as Ali Haider Mahar alias Haideru, Mehtab Mahar, Abdul Rehman Mahar, and Noman Mahar. Their bodies were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad, for postmortem examination.

Police recovered three pistols, a rifle, and a 2019-model Toyota Corolla from the suspects. The FIR was registered under Sections 324 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the state’s complaint.
