Man Allegedly Kills Daughter Due to Economic Hardship

Peshawar: In a heartbreaking incident in the Ghaziabad area of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, a man allegedly killed his three-year-old daughter, sources revealed on Sunday. 

The suspect, identified as Ayaz Khan, son of Ali Akbar, is reported to have stabbed his youngest daughter within the jurisdiction of the Phandu police station, Ghaziabad.

According to police reports, Ayaz, who is neither intoxicated nor mentally unstable, is believed to have been driven to this tragic act by severe economic hardship. Khan is the father of seven children—five daughters and two sons. The deceased was his youngest child.

Local sources further indicate that Ayaz, who is unemployed and living under dire conditions, has been apprehended by local police. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, and an investigation is underway.

 The preliminary report suggests that the incident was reported by Ayaz’s spouse. She stated that before sunset on Saturday, she noticed her daughter was missing and ran towards the roof to search for her.

There, she found her husband with bloodied hands, holding a knife on the stairs, and discovered the lifeless body of her daughter on the roof.

After receiving information about the incident, local police arrived at the scene, arrested Ayaz, and seized the knife.

Peshawar-based senior journalist Muhammad Faheem commented on the incident, highlighting the increasing economic and social pressures that lead individuals to commit acts of violence. He emphasized that the collective deterioration of society contributes to the rise in mental health issues and crimes.

Human rights activist Qamar Nasim expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it a sad and heartbreaking example of the seriousness of social problems and increasing mental health disorders.

Nasim stated that when individuals are willing to harm their children or themselves, underlying mental health issues are often to blame.

He further explained that mental health problems such as depression and anxiety can leave people feeling helpless and hopeless, leading them to take extreme measures.

Nasim urged the importance of addressing mental health issues to prevent such tragedies. He recommended that the government, social organizations, and the public work together to raise awareness about mental health and develop effective ways to support those affected. Understanding and treating mental health problems in a timely manner can save lives and prevent such tragic events.
