Malam Jabba Hosts First Winter Sports Camp for Girls

Peshawar: A historic three-day Girls’ Skiing and Snowboarding Camp was organized at the snow-covered slopes of Malam Jabba for girls from the merged districts (formerly FATA), marking a milestone in promoting sports and healthy activities in the region.
The camp, organized under the Directorate of Sports, Merged Districts, saw participation from 34 talented and determined young girls. Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Tarand, attended as the chief guest and addressed the participants.
Speaking at the event, Taj Muhammad Tarand emphasized that the initiative goes beyond sports, aiming to expand opportunities for women from conservative areas, introduce winter sports, and empower girls with confidence and independence.

“This camp proves that if given equal opportunities, Pakistani girls can excel in every field,” he said.
He lauded the support of Malam Jabba Ski Resort, Pakistan’s only government-owned ski resort, noting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s rich natural resources and snow-covered mountains as ideal for promoting winter sports.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to organizing similar programs in the future to encourage youth, particularly women, to pursue sports.
The camp received technical support from Samar Camp and was conducted under the supervision of Samar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s first professional female snowboarder and an international representative of Pakistan.
She served as a coach and mentor, providing comprehensive training and guidance to the participants.
