Mahira Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award in UK Parliament

Islamabad: Pakistani actress Mahira Khan was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in the UK Parliament on Thursday, recognizing her significant contributions to women’s empowerment and her role as a cultural ambassador.
The award ceremony, held in the House of Commons, was hosted by Afzal Khan MP and received support from a range of parliamentarians.
Among the attendees were Dr. Sarah Naeem, the High Commissioner’s wife, Atta Haq, Chairman of the Labour Asians Society, Shafiq Shahzad, Trade and Investment Minister, and Manish Tiwari, co-chair of the Labour Asians Society.
In her acceptance speech, an emotional Mahira Khan spoke passionately about her journey and the importance of empowering women, both in her industry and beyond.
She described the award as a symbol of her mission to open doors for other women, ensuring they have the opportunities she once fought for. Throughout her career, Mahira has been a trailblazer, creating paths for women who face the same obstacles she did.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Mahira shared how she had been the first woman in her Pashtun family to travel abroad alone, a move that shaped her independence.
She credited her parents for always promoting equal education and treating her and her siblings with equal love and respect. “My parents always believed in equal education,” she recalled, highlighting how their support has been central to her success.
The star also acknowledged the many people who played pivotal roles in her career, from mentors and teachers to family and friends.
“There have been tough times, but I’ve always had people around me who encouraged me and celebrated my successes,” she said. In a heartfelt moment after receiving the award, Mahira told the media: “This achievement is as much theirs as it is mine. My family, my son, my colleagues, and my friends have stood by me every step of the way. I owe it all to them.”
