Magnitude 5 Quake Strikes Sandwich Islands

Beijing: A magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook the South Sandwich Islands region at 04:12:19 GMT on Monday, informed U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicentre, with a depth of 147.1 km, was initially determined to be at 55.90 degrees south latitude and 28.32 degrees west longitude.

So far, there have been no reports of material or human damage resulting from the earthquake.

The South Sandwich Islands are an archipelago that is part of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the southern Atlantic Ocean.
