Lost Lives, Broken Trust: Dr Warda Mushtaq’s Body Found
News Desk
Abbottabad: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police on Monday recovered the body of Dr. Warda Mushtaq, who had been abducted four days earlier from the Benazir Shaheed District Hospital in Abbottabad. Her body was found in a remote hilly area on Thandiani Road, Lari Binota.
According to police, Dr. Warda had left the hospital a few days ago with her friend, Rida. Following her disappearance, authorities arrested Rida along with two other individuals.
Police sources revealed that Dr. Warda had been keeping approximately 67 tolas of gold jewellery with her friend since 2023. She had reportedly gone to reclaim her jewellery when the tragic incident occurred.
Investigations indicate that Rida took Dr. Warda to her under-construction house and handed her over to suspects Aurangzeb and Nadeem, who subsequently killed her in the Lari Binota area.
Acting on information provided by the suspects, police recovered the body and transferred it to the DHQ Hospital for a post-mortem. Investigations are ongoing.
The incident sparked immediate outrage among doctors and staff at Benazir Shaheed Hospital, who staged protests against the abduction and murder. Hospital services were suspended as doctors and paramedics took to the streets, blocking traffic at Fawara Chowk. Protesters raised slogans against the police, accusing them of negligence in handling the case.
Dr. Asfandiyar, Provincial President of the Young Doctors Association, condemned the provincial government’s response, stating: “Nothing was done over four days to recover the missing doctor, highlighting the incompetence of the Health Department and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police.”
He further warned that OPD work across the province would be boycotted starting tomorrow, and full protests would continue against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
