LNG Shortage Looms After April 14, Officials Warn
News Desk
Islamabad: Officials have warned that liquefied natural gas (LNG) will not be available in Pakistan after April 14, according to a briefing at a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum chaired by Senator Manzoor Ahmed.
Officials stated that LNG supply from Qatar has been completely halted since March 2, and earlier this year, two cargoes per month had already been postponed.
Out of eight cargoes scheduled for March, only two arrived, while six cargoes are expected in April, raising concerns over the country’s gas availability.

The supply to the fertilizer sector has already been cut by 50% by Sui Southern Gas Company, and gas deliveries to the power sector have fallen from 300 MMCFD to 130 MMCFD.
Officials said gas will continue to be supplied to domestic consumers, but the power sector’s requirements will not be fully met in April.
To bridge the shortfall, officials indicated that the power sector’s needs could be met through alternative sources, including potential LNG purchases from an Azerbaijani company.
However, spot LNG purchases could cost up to $24 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), compared to $9 per MMBtu from Qatar, which could result in higher electricity costs.
