LHC Issues Verdict Against Early Marriages

Islamabad: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a significant verdict regarding the marriage of young girls, with Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu delivering an interim written order in response to Ramzanah Bibi’s request.
In the order, the court directed the implementation of laws pertaining to the marriage of underage girls.
Furthermore, it established a high-level committee chaired by Prosecutor General Punjab, Syed Farhad Ali Shah, to oversee this matter.
According to the interim order, the Prosecutor General Punjab is mandated to lead the committee meeting scheduled for March 4, ensuring the participation of the Inspector General of Punjab Police and the Secretary of Local Government.
The court emphasized that Chairmen of Union Councils should promptly annul any underage marriages.
In cases where such marriages are registered, strict legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.
