Landslides Block Karakoram Highway

Diamer/Upper Kohistan: Heavy rainfall in northern Pakistan has triggered multiple landslides, leading to the complete suspension of traffic on the Karakoram Highway (KKH), according to police and media reports on Saturday.
The rainfall, which began late Friday night, has been lashing Diamer and Upper Kohistan districts, causing landslides at at least six locations along the highway. As a result, all types of traffic have come to a halt, with numerous trucks carrying goods and several passenger vans stranded at various points.
Police officials told the media that continuous rainfall was making it difficult to begin or accelerate clearance operations, as the risk of further landslides remains high. Rescue teams and road-clearing machinery are on standby, but access and safety concerns are slowing progress.
Authorities added that they are still awaiting confirmation on the status of the Chilas-to-Gilgit section of the highway, as communication from some areas remains disrupted.
The Karakoram Highway is a vital transport route linking Gilgit-Baltistan with the rest of the country. Its closure has raised concerns over potential delays in the delivery of essential supplies and increased hardships for travelers caught in the disruption.
