Landmark Legislation Passed in Balochistan to Protect Women at Work

Quetta: In a major step toward ensuring safer work environments, the Balochistan Assembly on Monday passed a landmark amendment bill aimed at protecting women from harassment in the workplace. The bill strengthens legal safeguards across both public and private sector institutions, marking a significant milestone for gender equality in the province.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti hailed the passage of the bill as a “collective success” and a “practical step toward a more inclusive society,” emphasizing its importance in promoting sustainable development and gender equity.
“True progress is only possible when men and women work together in a secure and respectful environment,” he said during the assembly session. “This law reflects our shared commitment to protecting women’s rights and dignity.”
The legislation was spearheaded by Dr. Rubaba Khan Buledi, Advisor on Women’s Development, who was widely commended for her leadership in drafting the bill and building bipartisan consensus.
Chief Minister Bugti also acknowledged the constructive role played by opposition members, stating that unity on issues of human dignity was essential for long-term provincial progress.
“I congratulate the house for passing a law that brings safety, trust, and opportunity to women in their workplaces,” he said. “Our government remains committed to empowering women with equal rights, respect, and security.”
The Chief Minister concluded by extending appreciation to all stakeholders involved in crafting the legislation and reiterated his administration’s pledge to uphold women’s rights across all sectors of society.
