Landmark Initiative: GB Launches ‘Commission On Status Of Women’

Islamabad: The Gilgit-Baltistan Commission on the Status of Women will play a key role in protecting them from violence and will help them get economically empowered, stated National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) Chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar.
In a historic event held at the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) House in Islamabad on October 14,GB Chief Minister Haji Gul Bahar Khan and Nilofar Bakhtiar announced the establishment of the Gilgit-Baltistan Commission on the Status of Women followed by the bill approved by the GB Assembly last year.The NCSW and its national and United Nation partners jointly achieved this milestone, and now every province and region of Pakistan has Commissions on the Status of Women, said Nilofar.
Our target and mission are to strengthen these commissions to ensure the safeguarding of women’s rights, the Chairperson further said, adding that by working together, we can make significant progress in securing a safer and more equitable environment for all.
During the ceremony, Chief Minister reassured his commitment to provide every possible support for the promotion and protection of the rights of women and girls in the region.
Haji Gul marked this day as a great success for those struggling for decades to create an enabling environment for all the weak and vulnerable segments of our population.
