Lahore’s Air Quality Improves After Weeks of Severe Smog
News Desk
Lahore: After enduring nearly a month of persistent smog, residents of Lahore finally experienced a sunny winter day as the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped below 200.
Data from IQAir revealed that while most areas in the provincial capital recorded AQI levels under 200, MM Alam Road remained an exception, with a peak AQI of 304, categorized as “Hazardous.” Across the city, the average AQI stood at 143, placing it in the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” category.
Environmental experts noted that PM2.5 concentrations in Lahore were still alarmingly high, measuring 10.5 times above the World Health Organization’s (WHO) annual air quality guideline.
Key AQI readings from various localities included Sundar (168), Bedian Road (163), Polo Ground Cantt (156), University of Management and Technology (153), and WWF-Pakistan (152).
Despite the improvement, experts continue to urge authorities and citizens to take precautionary measures, emphasizing the need for long-term strategies to tackle Lahore’s recurring air pollution crisis.
