Lahore Theaters Closed, Rawalpindi Loudspeakers Open

Rawalpindi/ Lahore: Despite a court order issued on January 21 by Additional District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi, Maqsood Ahmed Qureshi, authorities have yet to take effective action against the illegal use of loudspeakers and megaphones in Rawalpindi.

The judge had directed the Chief Secretary Punjab, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, and City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi to immediately and strictly act against street vendors, hawkers, and pushcart sellers using megaphones and loudspeakers.

However, several days after the order, loud announcements continue openly in various parts of the city and Rawalpindi Cantonment.

According to the petitioner, rehri vendors selling vegetables, fruits, fish, ice cream, scrap, and other items, along with begging mafias, freely use loudspeakers in streets and neighborhoods of Rawalpindi, Chaklala Cantts, and inner city areas.

Meanwhile, in Lahore, all theater halls have been ordered to remain closed on Tuesday in observance of Shab-e-Barat. No theater performances will take place during the night of February 3 into February 4, 2026, corresponding to 15 Shaban 1447 AH, astrologist Imran Ashrafi informed APP.

Separately, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a four-day-long weekend for the province, starting February 5. The holiday schedule includes Kashmir Day on February 5 and Basant on February 6, followed by the weekend, providing residents with an extended break.
