Lab-Made Mosquitoes Target Malaria-Causing Females

Islamabad: In Djibouti, laboratory-created male mosquitoes are set to be released to help combat malaria.
According to a BBC report, these genetically engineered male mosquitoes are designed to reduce the population of female mosquitoes that spread malaria.
This approach has been tried before in countries such as Brazil, India, Panama, and other African nations.
The male mosquitoes, which are produced in the lab, target and eliminate malaria-carrying female mosquitoes.
In addition to reducing malaria, this method also helps diminish mosquitoes that carry other diseases. Female mosquitoes are responsible for transmitting malaria, and they can bite at any time of day or night.
These engineered males die within a few days after the female mosquitoes are eliminated, completing their role in the process.
