KP Moves to Turn Kumrat into Sustainable Tourism Hub

Peshawar: Kumrat Valley is poised for a major eco-tourism boost as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Department and the Kumrat Development Authority (KDA) approved key measures to accelerate sustainable development in the scenic region.

The decisions were taken during a high-level meeting of the KDA Board, chaired by Secretary Tourism, Culture, Archaeology and Museums Dr. Abdul Samad. The meeting was attended by Board Chairman Nasrullah Khan, Director KDA Zameen Khan, MNA Sahibzada Sibghatullah, and MPA Malik Gul Ibrahim Khan.

Director KDA briefed participants on progress regarding administrative and technical matters, including staff recruitment, identification of a site for the Authority’s office, and restoration of flood-damaged infrastructure.

Secretary Dr. Abdul Samad directed that all new hotels and tourism infrastructure in Kumrat and nearby areas must comply with approved building codes to protect the valley’s natural beauty and ecological balance. He also instructed officials to expedite the establishment of the KDA office and complete staff hiring on priority.

The meeting discussed recommendations for providing essential vehicles and equipment to the Authority. Dr. Samad assured full departmental support and technical assistance to transform Kumrat into a modern, sustainable, and eco-friendly tourist destination.

The meeting reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment, under the vision of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi and Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to promote sustainable tourism, create local job opportunities, and develop international-standard tourist facilities across the province.

A comprehensive strategy is already being implemented to promote Kumrat and other key destinations through improved infrastructure, environmental protection, and community-based tourism initiatives.
