Islamabad: The Managing Director of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), Aftab ur Rehman Rana, hailed the historic winter opening of Khunjerab Pass as a “turning point” for Pakistan’s tourism sector, signaling a new era of growth, global collaboration, and cultural exchange.
In an exclusive interview with PTV News, Rana expressed his optimism that the decision to keep Khunjerab Pass open year-round would transform the tourism landscape, bringing significant economic benefits to the local community and enhancing their quality of life.
He described the initiative as a landmark achievement that would elevate Pakistan’s status as a premier tourism destination.
“The winter opening of Khunjerab Pass is set to unlock new opportunities for tourism, marking a historic moment for our industry,” Rana said. He emphasized that this move would not only increase the flow of tourists but also create a platform for cultural harmony and international cooperation.
Rana also highlighted the growing interest from Chinese companies and investors in establishing world-class tourism resorts in Pakistan, a development that promises to further boost the nation’s tourism sector.

He also announced that Chinese tourist buses would soon be visiting Pakistan, strengthening the bilateral tourism ties between the two countries.
“This reciprocal arrangement will allow Chinese tourists to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Pakistan while providing an opportunity for Pakistani travelers to experience the beauty of China,” he explained.
He also mentioned that Pakistani tourist buses will start operating to China, fostering increased people-to-people exchanges and deepening cultural ties between the two nations.
