KDA Tightens Safety After Glacier Tragedy in Kaghan
Naran: In the wake of a tragic glacier incident that claimed three lives in Kaghan a couple of days ago, the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) has intensified safety measures across the region.
According to the details, on the special directives of Advisor for Tourism, Culture, and Archaeology, Mr. Zahid Chanzeb, and under the instructions of KDA Director General Shabbir Khan, the KDA Engineering Wing has dismantled all dangerous sections of glaciers along the Naran-Jalkhad Road using heavy machinery.
The preventive action was taken to safeguard tourists and avert further loss of life. Authorities revealed that despite repeated warnings, tourists have been risking their lives by venturing dangerously close to glaciers to take selfies and photographs. Officials have once again appealed to incoming tourists to avoid such behavior and remain cautious in high-risk areas.
The recent glacier collapse, which resulted in the deaths of three tourists, underscored the urgent need for increased awareness and compliance with safety advisories. The swift rise in temperatures has accelerated snow and ice melt in the region, contributing to increased water flow in the Kunhar River. Tourists are strongly advised to stay away from riverbanks and melting glaciers to ensure their safety.
In another enforcement action, the KDA technical team has suspended the operations of the “Sky Walker Adventure Club” zip line located at the Gorian Glacier site. The operator was found to be functioning without the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) and had violated multiple Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), despite receiving repeated notices. The zip line facility will remain closed until a full inspection is conducted and a formal NOC is granted by the KDA technical team.
KDA officials have urged tourists not to use any uncertified adventure facilities and to strictly follow safety protocols during their visit to the Kaghan Valley. The Authority reiterated that tourist safety remains its top priority and that strict action will be taken against any violation of rules or negligence that could endanger lives.
