Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that Karachi will experience hot, humid, and partly cloudy weather during the three-day Eid ul Adha holiday. Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 35°C and 37°C, with sea breezes likely to remain active throughout the festive period.

However, the PMD has issued a warning for strong winds on the second day of Eid, with gusts reaching speeds of 35 to 40 kilometers per hour.

Across other parts of Sindh, the weather is expected to remain hot and dry, with most areas facing continued high temperatures.

Earlier in the week, the Met Office predicted very hot and dry conditions for most of the country’s plains during Eid ul Adha. In contrast, northern regions including Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, and Mansehra may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms. The PMD cautioned that windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning could pose risks to vulnerable structures such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels in central and upper parts of the country.

Farmers are advised to plan agricultural activities in accordance with the forecast, while the general public, commuters, and tourists are urged to take safety precautions.

Eid Holidays and Observance

The federal government has declared a four-day public holiday for Eid ul Adha, from June 6 to June 9. This applies to both five-day and six-day working offices, as per a Cabinet Division notification issued earlier this week.

This year, the first day of Zil Hajj was observed on Thursday, May 29, placing Eid ul Adha on Saturday, June 7. Falling on the 10th day of Zil Hajj, Eid ul Adha also coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage and is considered one of the two major Islamic festivals, alongside Eid ul Fitr.

Traditionally celebrated over three days, Eid ul Adha—also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice”—commemorates the Qur’anic story of Prophet Ibrahim’s (PBUH) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. According to Islamic belief, God intervened and provided a ram to be sacrificed instead.

The occasion is marked by communal prayers, family gatherings, and acts of charity, including the ritual sacrifice of livestock. The meat is distributed among family, friends, and those in need.
