Islamabad: The serene Kalash Valley is alive with the vibrant celebrations of the traditional ‘Chomos Festival,’ marking the beginning of the Kalash community’s New Year. 

According to a report aired by PTV News, the festival has evolved into a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors from across the globe to experience the unique customs and traditions of the Kalash tribe.

The report highlighted the festival’s colorful processions, lively traditional music, and dance performances that reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Kalash people. These festivities, held annually, provide an immersive experience for tourists eager to engage with the tribe’s unique traditions.

Local administration efforts to facilitate tourists and promote the festival were also emphasized in the report. “We are committed to preserving and promoting our cultural heritage,” said Tashfeen Haider, Director General of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Culture Department. “The Chomos festival is a significant part of our cultural efforts, and it not only celebrates the Kalash New Year but also offers a platform to showcase their customs and traditions.”

The Chomos festival, a 15-day celebration taking place in the picturesque Kalash Valley in Chitral, marks the winter solstice and the start of the Kalash New Year. The festivities are proving to be a unique cultural exchange opportunity, enabling visitors to interact with the Kalash community, participate in activities, and learn about their distinct way of life.

“The festival helps promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation while offering an enriching experience for everyone involved,” Haider added. With growing interest from tourists, the Chomos festival continues to shine as a beacon of cultural diversity and hospitality in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
