Kachehri Flyover Project Reaches 54% Completion in Rawalpindi
News Desk
Islamabad: The mega remodeling and infrastructure development project at Kachehri Chowk is progressing at a brisk pace, with overall construction reaching 54 percent completion, officials said on Tuesday.
The project, aimed at modernising one of Rawalpindi’s busiest intersections and easing chronic traffic congestion, includes the construction of an underpass, utility ducts, an advanced drainage system, and extensive road improvements to ensure a smoother commute.
According to updated figures, construction at Iftikhar Janjua Chowk has reached 40 percent completion, while work on the Kachehri Chowk underpass stands at 47 percent.
Executive Engineer (EXEN) Punjab Highways Rana Qamar Ali told APP that work on the Jinnah Park underpass has crossed 43 percent completion. He said construction of the retaining wall is nearing completion, with 94 percent of the work finished, while 95 percent of the sump wells have been completed. Efforts are underway to make the entire drainage and dewatering system fully operational.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Rawalpindi and Engineer Amir Khattak visited the project site on Wednesday to review the pace and quality of construction. During the visit, he issued strict instructions to ensure adherence to the project timeline and stressed the need to maintain smooth traffic flow and minimise public inconvenience during ongoing works.
The project is scheduled for completion by June this year; however, officials expressed confidence that it could be completed ahead of schedule.
In addition, progress is also visible on Peshawar Road, where work on multiple underpasses has begun. Piling activities are underway near Chairing Cross, while survey teams have completed site marking at Race Course Ground Chowk, Army Graveyard Turn and Chairing Cross. Once completed, these underpasses are expected to provide signal-free access to the motorway and significantly improve traffic flow on Peshawar Road.
The EXEN said construction of the Peshawar Road underpasses would follow the completion of the Kachehri Chowk project.
Upon completion of these remodeling projects, commuters will be able to travel uninterrupted and signal-free from Koral Chowk to Peshawar Road. Remodeling of Ammar Chowk is also planned, with work set to begin after the Kachehri project.
The proposed redesign includes an adjoining bridge to connect traffic from Rahimabad Bridge, bypassing the main Ammar Chowk signal.
Since the start of construction, traffic management in the city has been affected, with diversions in place. The city traffic police continue to closely monitor the diversion plan to ensure smoother movement amid limited alternative routes.
