Jasprit Bumrah’s Champions Trophy Participation in Doubt
News Desk
Islamabad: Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the upcoming Champions Trophy remains uncertain following an injury sustained during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Bumrah, 30, will report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehabilitation under the supervision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Widely regarded as one of India’s finest pacers, Bumrah suffered the injury on the second day of the final Test match. He bowled only one over after the lunch break before leaving the field, with subsequent scans confirming the severity of his condition.
Sources indicate that Bumrah may be included in the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy, but his final participation will depend on his recovery progress. “Selectors will make a decision, but his inclusion is subject to fitness,” a source told India Today.
Uncertainty Over Injury Details
The BCCI has yet to provide an official statement regarding the exact nature and severity of Bumrah’s injury. Medical assessments at the NCA will determine the classification of the injury, which will significantly influence his recovery timeline.
Grade 1: Recovery in 2-3 weeks
Grade 2: Recovery in 6 weeks
Grade 3: Recovery may require 3 months
Concerns Over Workload
Experts attribute Bumrah’s injury to his heavy workload during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he bowled over 150 overs. The BCCI is reportedly cautious about rushing his return, particularly with the Champions Trophy on the horizon.
“He was expected to rest during the T20I series against England, but his role in the Champions Trophy made him a key contender for selection,” a source added.
Bumrah’s condition and recovery will be closely monitored in the coming weeks to determine his readiness for the tournament.
