ITP Restricts Entry of Heavy Vehicles, Rickshaws

News Desk

Islamabad: In a bid to enhance road safety and streamline traffic flow, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has imposed a strict ban on the entry of heavy, overloaded vehicles and loader rickshaws into the federal capital.

The initiative, launched on Friday, comes under the direct supervision of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (R) Syed Zeeshan Haider, and is part of a broader campaign leveraging drone surveillance to crack down on traffic violations across the city.

According to a spokesperson of the ITP, additional personnel have been deployed at major highways and intersections to ensure compliance with the new restrictions and to manage traffic more efficiently.

Vehicles found violating traffic laws—such as signal breaking, overspeeding, lane violations, or wrong parking—will be fined, and in some cases, seized on the spot. The ITP is also using drone cameras for real-time monitoring and enforcement to ensure transparency and fairness in the crackdown.

“No overloaded or heavy vehicle will be allowed to enter the city under any circumstances,” CTO Zeeshan Haider said, emphasizing that the enforcement of traffic laws will be uniform and without discrimination.

He also announced that the Islamabad Traffic Education Unit will remain active on key routes to raise public awareness, while senior officers will remain in the field to oversee operations and respond promptly to any emerging situations.

“The safety of citizens and the prevention of road accidents is our top priority,” the CTO stated, urging the public to follow traffic rules and cooperate with traffic police officials.
