Islamic Scholars Called to Promote Unity, Peace During Muharram

Islamabad: Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Chaudhry Salik Hussain emphasized the indispensable role of Islamic scholars in fostering unity, brotherhood, and peace, particularly during Muharram-ul-Haram 1446 AH and beyond.
He made these remarks at a meeting of Pakistan’s leading scholars and religious leaders held at the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) under the chairmanship of Dr Raghib Naeemi.
Minister Salik highlighted the near-eradication of extremism and radicalism in the country. He expressed optimism about continuing this progress with the support of religious scholars.
CII Chairman Dr Raghib Naeemi presented a consensus declaration at the meeting, emphasizing the importance of the “Azm-e-Istihkam” initiative in strengthening the National Action Plan and achieving lasting peace.
He called for the dissemination of the “Paigham-e-Pakistan” Code of Conduct from mosques and community centers to ensure it permeates society. Dr. Naeemi also stressed the importance of promoting a specific code of conduct for Muharram-ul-Haram, a responsibility that lies with religious scholars and leaders.
The declaration underscored the need to uphold the Constitution, respect the basic rights of every citizen, venerate Islamic sanctities, and take genuine steps to eradicate hate speech, violence, prejudice, sectarianism, and extremism.
Prominent participants included Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani, Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi, Maulana Tayyab Qureshi, Allama Arif Wahidi, Allama Iftikhar Hussain Naqvi, Mufti Nauman Naeem, Allama Shabbir Maisami, Allama Hameed Imami, Pir Naqeeb-ur-Rehman, Maulana Imtiaz Siddiqui, Senator Hafiz Abdul Karim, and other esteemed scholars.
